
What is Pastis 51?
The one and only Pastis 5 from Marseille, France, the drink takes its name from its year of birth, 1951.
The drink used to be called Pernod 51, but because there was already a Pernod 45 on the market, this was confusing for customers and so the name was changed to Pastis 51.
You can drink this drink in different ways, but if you want to dilute it with water, it is best to keep a ratio of 1 part Pastis 51 and 5 parts water, this way the essence of Pastis 51 remains clearly noticeable.
How is Pastis 51 made?
Pastis 51 is made by macerating anise extracts, liquorice, licorice, sugar, alcohol and pure water.
How much alcohol is in Pastis 51?
The alcohol percentage is between 40% and 45%.
Cold water is added before consumption, which creates the characteristic cloudiness.
Where does Pastis come from?
The Provençal word pastis means something like mixture.
The drink pastis originates from the port of Marseille, and the herbs of the country are combined with the herbs and spices from the East (liquorice, anise).
Paul Ricard's recipe from 1932 gave him the status of world market leader in pastis.
