Calvados

What is Calvados?

Calvados is a strong alcoholic drink similar to cognac, obtained by distilling apple cider.

How is Calvados made?

Apple cider is distilled twice, resulting in a distillate with an alcohol percentage of 69% to 72%.
This is followed by maturation in oak barrels. The maturation period can vary from 1 to 5 years.
During the maturation process, the distillate loses some of its alcohol.
Before the Calvados is sold, it is coloured with a little caramel, but not sweetened, so that the dry taste is retained.

How much alcohol does Calvados contain?

Calvados contains between 40 and 45 percent alcohol
