What is Prosecco?
Prosecco is the name of both an Italian sparkling wine and the white grape variety from which this wine is made. Prosecco is drunk cold and is very suitable as an aperitif or with fish or salad. Just like Spanish cava, prosecco is often used as an alternative to champagne. However, prosecco has a completely different taste and character than, for example, champagne. Prosecco is always young, lively, fruity and fresh, while champagne is often somewhat more mature due to the longer time that a second fermentation in the bottle takes.
How long can you store Processo?
Prosecco should not be stored for longer than two years. After this, the wine will only deteriorate.
What types of Prosecco are there?
There are 2 types of prosecco, frizzante and spumante. The most common variant, prosecco frizzante, has a slightly lower carbon dioxide pressure. Frizzante is bottled and sealed with a cork and a string. Prosecco spumante contains more carbon dioxide and more mousse. Spumante is bottled in a sturdy bottle and, like champagne, sealed with a crown cork and a muselet. Both types of prosecco are made to be drunk young.
