What is Sambuca?
Sambuca is an Italian anise liqueur. Most sambuca varieties are completely clear, but become cloudy when mixed with water. Despite the name, sambuca does not contain elderberries (Sambucus). Traditionally, a sambuca is served with three coffee beans in the glass. These coffee beans represent health, wealth and happiness. A sambuca can be briefly lit to get a nice round, thick taste and to get hot and cold in the mouth at the same time. Sometimes other aromas are added, such as mandarin.
How much alcohol is in Sambuca?
Sambuca contains approximately 40 percent alcohol.
What is Sambuca sniffing?
Among young people, the so-called sambuca sniffing is popular. In this, the sambuca is first set on fire, then the palm of the hand is placed on the glass so that the glass creates a vacuum. Then the hand is pulled away and the alcohol vapors are sniffed. Then the glass is emptied in one go and the glass is placed on the palm of the hand again. Finally, a straw is held above the glass to suck up the last alcohol vapors. This makes the alcohol work much faster than normal and the user feels tipsy almost immediately.
